Top5 | Aug 10, 2016
Most guitarists are familiar with Tubescreamer and Klon style overdrives being modded or outright copied to produce many other well known overdrives. Lesser known is that the Marshall Bluesbreaker circuit has also inspired quite a few other great pedals. Here is our list of the Top 5, along with a shoot out of a few of them from Sean Gibson
1) Analog Man King Of Tone
The undoubted king of the Bluesbreaker style pedals in the Analog Man King of Tone. It sports not just one but two independent overdrives, which can each be configured for boost, overdrive or distortion. Combining just enough mid range emphasis and transient attack, the King of tone has commanded a long waiting list.
2) JHS Morning Glory
JHS refined the Bluesbreaker circuit emphasising transparency and fixing some of the issues with the original.
3) Keeley 1962
The 1962 combines a Bluesbreaker style circuit with the legendary Katana Boost, resulting in a unique overdrive that only Keeley Pedals could do.
4) Snouse Blackbox Overdrive
The Snouce Blackbox is the tweaker's Bluesbreaker style overdrive. Along with the standard gain, volume and tone, it adds a JFET boost and a presence control for ultimate precise tone shaping.
5) Mooer Blues Crab
If you're looking for something more affordable (and much smaller!), the Mooer Blues Crab might be for you. The Mooer Blues Crab is a faithful representation, even down to the color scheme of the mini pedal enclosure.
