This J-45 may be olive green, but it’ll have you longing for the blue grass of Kentucky! This fretboard is a flatpicker’s paradise, and the sonic profile is as unique as the color. The quality of the midrange is rather different than you’d expect—whereas many J-45s are very woody and warm, this one is comparatively bright and punchy.
There’s also a good deal of jangle and sparkle waiting in the upper register, but the overtones never overwhelm the gut-punch of the fundamental. This green machine also has a bit less headroom some other big-bodied acoustics, so when you pick hard you get this pleasingly boxy sound that lends itself well to gutbucket blues. If you need a dreadnought with an EQ curve that will fit perfectly in any mix but still has enough of a bad attitude to stand out, this jolly green giant is a great fit!
