Check out this recording I made waaaay back in 1979-80 when I was but a stripling youth! I think it holds up surprisingly well considering the age and no Strymon Timeline! :-)
One of the key guitar features of this piece is the use of volume swells. But not with a volume pedal. I used the volume control knob on the guitar.
The song is called "Ten Million Light Years", and features me singing in addition to playing 3 tracks of volume swell guitar and one track of guitar synth (an original ARP Avatar) AND original Moog Taurus Bass Pedals! All the equipment I can remember is below.

Lyrics:
A siren rushes
Out of the night
Fades away to nothingness
The windows half clear, half steamy
The night half foggy, half rainy
The clock strikes three, then four
Easier to sort thought then to sleep
Easier to dwell in yesterday
Harder to dwell in tomorrow
The clock strikes five
And the earth is not in sight
The sun a tiny dot
Ten million light years away
A giant fireball hurling through space
Fulfilling its purpose as a Creation
The shapes outside the window
Grow more defined
As morning casts its first light
Through the woods
The Father of lights
Beholds the spectacle
And helps one of His children into sleep
