Aimed at the bedroom producer, these great value 2-way, nearfield monitors deliver the trademark Adam Audio sound and quality, but at a much more affordable price. There’s currently two models in the range, the T5V and the T7V. Each unit features two Class D digital amplifiers with DSP crossovers to balance and smooth out the midrange frequencies between the woofer and tweeter. In total, each monitor kicks out 70w RMS, so thats 50w from the main driver and 20w from the tweeter.
The more compact T5V has a 5” driver offering a bass frequency response down to 45Hz whereas the larger T7V is fitted with a 7” driver, extending those frequencies down to 39Hz. These woofers are constructed from lightweight polypropylene which, even at higher volumes, offers excellent transient response without the diaphragm starting to distort and break up.
The T series monitors feature a newly designed 1.9” U-ART, or Accelerated Ribbon Tweeter, which is based on the tweeters found in Adams much more expensive monitors. A very acoustically effective design, these tweeters have a larger diaphragm surface, offering an extended dynamic range when compared to a conventional dome tweeter. Designed to allow for longer periods of listening without getting hearing fatigue, the tweeter has a pristine high frequency response up to 25kHZ and their unique folded diaphragms help to keep distortion to a minimum.
The Tweeters are then fitted to a waveguide, which shares the exact same dispersion-control attributes as the HPS waveguide found on ADAMs flagship S series monitors. But whereas those are made from aluminium, the T series waveguards have been moulded from plastic to keep costs down. This clever design disperses the high end frequencies nice and evenly, keeps stereo imaging consistent, and helps to reduce early reflections off of the surfaces in your studio such as your desk or mixing console.
The cabinets themselves aren’t particularly flashy, you get the impression they’ve been designed to be functional rather than pretty. The T7V is obviously a little larger than the 5, but they’ve still got a pretty ergonomic design and reasonably compact footprint if space if a little tight in your studio setup.
These monitors are intended to be used vertically to ensure the correct stereo imaging, they’re also rear ported and tuned to deliver a tight bass response with very low compression, and the cabinets geometry has been acoustically optimised, reducing any unwanted reflections from the actually cabinets themselves. Each unit is individually powered by an IEC kettle lead, and there’s both balanced XLR or unbalanced phono inputs. These inputs are switchable, meaning you can actually have two separate sources permanently connected at the same time, let’s say a DJ setup into the phonos and a separate computer based production system plugged into the XLRs, which you could then easily switch between without unplugging anything. Above the inputs is a volume control and finally, high and low frequency attenuator switches. These offer either 2db boost or reduction, allowing you to tweak bass or treble of the monitors depending on speaker positioning or the acoustics of your room. For example, if you’ve set them up in a tight space, you may want to notch the bass end down to reduce boominess caused by close proximity to a wall.
They’re in a similar kinda price range to the popular KRK Rokit and Yamaha HS series, so it’s definitely worth comparing them all if you’re looking for a pair of high quality, but affordable studio monitors. One last thing, if you do pick yourself up a set of the T-Series, don’t forget to register them on the Adam Audio website as you’ll then get an extended 5 year warranty.
