Fresh shellac made from flakes is superior to pre-mixed from a can or in an aerosol. But the traditional approach is slow, and it doesn't always dissolve completely.
This method involves two extra steps but you get nearly flawless results in under 30 minutes (less time than it would take to drive to the hardware store to get the premixed stuff.)
