This vintage 1966 Fender Telecaster, finished in Lake Placid Blue, is all original with the exception of the nut and possibly the frets. While the frets have had regular maintanace over the past 47 years, the neck has never seen any finish work so it's entirely possible that these are the original frets. The original neck capacitor was removed at one point and then reinstalled. There are some touched up solder joints inside, but all of the components (pots, wire, caps) appear to be original to the guitar. They are, at the very least, aboslutely era correct. The fret work was done extremely well, but it could definitely benefit from a refret.
There 's a long list of reasons you are going to absolutely love this vintage Telecaster! Let's start with the obvious ones. The finish on this guitar is just excellent! The Lake Placid Blue has aged to a much greener blue, sure to drive any surf rock fan bonkers. Perhaps you noticed the amount of flame in the maple neck while you were browsing the pictures also. No? Check again! It's subtle and brilliant at the same time, popping out from the head stock down to the 7th fret and picking right back up around the 10th. During the 60's this wasn't a standard feature or an upgrade by anymeans. Sometimes you just get a nice piece of wood to work with.
Finally... Let's talk about this pickup combination. Both are 100% original, and combined, they make for possibly the best Tele combination ever! The neck pickup is a Pre CBS black single coil measuring a smooth and dark 6.66k, while the CBS Gray Back in the bridge adds the right amount of bite at 7.11k! Played through any clean channel with some reverb, this Tele is anything but brittle on the ears. These pickups create oneof the smoothest sounding Telecasters to grace our shop. Other stand out original features include the ashtray bridge cover, top hat switch, knurled chrome knobs, 3 ply pick guard, original strap buttons and the original Fender black hard shell case.
The neck joint date reads 3 OCT 66B. The nut width is 1 5/8". The pots date to the 31st week of '66. The original double line Kluson tuners are still working just fine.
