This Surf Green '59 Jazzmaster is endlessly inspiring, because it offers the player just a little bit more of everything that makes a Jazzmaster special! In general, it has thicker, deeper bass than most Jazzmaster serials I play, and and it has bit more high-end sparkle to go with that signature woody midrange. It's also quite touch-sensitive, and it has an uncommonly wide dynamic range in the attack. This serial can sound quite round and thumpy when you play with a light touch, but it really growls when you spank it. I can't get enough of the neck pickup, because the low notes have the sort of thickness and gristle that you get when you play a really nice bass high up on the neck. The fundamental is POWERFUL, and it provides an excellent foundation for the woody low mids and quacking upper mids. The bridge pickup also brought me great joy because of its inimitable bright timbre. Like many Jazzmaster pickups, it provides snappy, punchy midrange, but the harmonics that bloom above it all are the real star of the show. There's this beautiful bell-like resonance that, for me, evoked an image of the night sky up north somewhere where there's less light pollution and you can see every star. It's bright and shining, but it's surrounded by a warm, spacious, inviting atmosphere. It was a blast to play jangly rhythm parts and George Harrison-esque leads through a clean amp, and I could probably chunk away on distorted rhythm parts all day long on this serial. It's also worth noting that you can play full barre chords into a distorted amp with this serial and still hear every note clearly, which speaks to its fantastic balance! Anyone that's looking for a Jazzmaster that just has a little bit more of everything will love this serial!
