Ray Carlton has built quite a few guitars for me - all great. Today he dropped over with a little something that he strapped together for his own use: The Rust Bucket. The Rust Bucket draws heavily on the Telecaster configuration and adds a slightly offset shape, 'rust' paint job and the 4-way switch that is the subject of this demo. The switch's 1st, 2nd and 3rd positions correspond to traditional Telecaster positions while the 2nd position introduces a couple of capacitors and a resistor to the bridge pickups, resulting in a sort of darker, 'cocked wah' sound that is great to push an overdrive or overdriven amp. Ray says it's an "extension of the Toneranger circuit", whatever that means. I think it needs a catchier name so you can order one for yourself as I have done. Rock out.
