From the 2004 James Reyne Album, "Speedboats For Breakfast". Written and performed by Brett Kingman.
When James Reyne recorded his 2004 album "Speedboats For Breakfast", I had the music and riff for this one and offered it up for James to contribute to or just sing as was. He suggested we slow it down a little (I was jamming it about 20bpm faster than this version) and in the end he thought I should sing it. So I wrote the lyrics in my head on the way to my brother Scott's studio and Scott and I belted the whole lot out in a day. Scott programmed the drums and synths to our mutual satisfaction and I played and sang pretty much everything else (and I know I'm not much of a singer!) although I think Scott might have thrown in a little rhythm guitar towards the end of the track. We used a Hughes & Kettner Zentera amp for the guitar parts and a 2001 Telecaster Standard. The solo was compiled from a long take. Scott just let the chord progression loop for about 10 minutes and I jammed over the top of it. Scott took what he thought were the best bits and compiled what you hear now. That's it, really. So here it is; my one and only commercial track to appear on a James Reyne album. A little blast from the past.
