In this video, Sam has a play with the Stone Deaf Trashy Blonde, a great sounding overdrive pedal with parametric filter EQ. Check one out here: https://www.pmtonline.co.uk/stone-deaf-trashy-blonde-parametric-amp-filter
Stone Deaf say that the Trashy Blonde has been designed to be the quintessential “classic rock in a box” overdrive pedal, offering really smooth drive tones inspired by classic British Tube amps…so basically, it sounds like a Marshall. So if you’re a fan of sparkling, jangly, super clean amps, but still want to have that iconic Marshall style crunch to your tonal arsenal, the Trashy Blonde is definitely worth checking out.
The Trash knob controls the amount of gain, and as you’d expect that’s got quite a wide range from light crunchy breakup right up to full on distortion. There’s a balance control which adjust the pedal’s overall output level with unity gain at 12 o’clock, and also a mix control to blend in the clean and dirty signals.
Moving on the EQ side of things, the Trashy Blonde features a paracentric EQ, which allows you to dial in a certain frequency to either boost or cut, which really helps you to create expressive overdrive tones that will really cut through a mix. The Frequency selector knob ranges from 35 hertz up to 6 kilohertz, and the Cut/Boost knob controls by how much your selected frequency is enhanced or reduced, with a plus or minus 20 db range. Finally, there’s a 5-position bandwidth selector which sets the Q factor of the boost or cut, ranging from really thin to big fat bandwidths. Combine all these controls together and you’ve got a hugely versatile overdrive pedal that can deliver all those iconic Marshall-like tones, from the subtle crunch of a JTM45, right up to the full on, balls out rock of a JCM800.
One really handy feature as well, is the clean/trash switch. Whereas the other switch, which is a standard true bypass, turns the entire pedal on and off, this one just toggles the overdrive circuit in and out, so when in clean mode you can use the trashy blonde as a standalone parametric EQ going into other pedals.
You can also connect an expression pedal to control some of the EQ elements with your foot, creating wah overdrive or phaser effects, but do bear in mind, it will only work with the optional Stone Deaf EP-1 active expression pedal.Hand made here in England, the pedal is built to a really tough, high standard, and it looks great with it’s cool, slightly saucy artwork, reminiscent of all those classic 70’s rock album covers. And finally, the pedal can be powered by either a 9 volt power supply or a battery.
