The Ethos line of preamp/overdrives by Custom Tones will be familiar to most tone-chasers out there and is is held in the highest regard. Rob Hall and the Custom Tones crew have now introduced the TWE-1, a medium to high gain overdrive/preamp that has astonishingly amp-like control and dynamics. Among the TWE-1's many qualities is its ability to go from clean-to-scream with some light manipulation of your guitar's volume knob, particularly with either the Brite or Presence toggles engaged. Speaking of toggles, you'll find four that boast about 11 positions. I have no idea what the switching combination count would be but it's sure versatile! You'll feel the sag at high gain positions and feel the air move if you engage the 4x12 Cab position. It's a lot of fun and sounds amazing. The TWE-1 is definitely one of my top picks for 2017 and probably the last two or three years. Try one, you won't be disappointed.
There's another demo showing many of the TWE-1's switching combinations with a Broadcaster and 'real' amp (Carl Martin Custom Shop 50) on my channel at https://youtu.be/UawpVWgGXiA
