There’s something undeniably cool about a great offset instrument. First introduced at the 1958 NAMM Show, the Jazzmaster was initially designed and marketed to jazz guitarists, but quickly gained an impressive following with surf rock guitarists in the early 60s. The offset waist design was originally intended to be played sitting down, a common playing position for jazz players. With surf rock dominating the airwaves and defining a decade, the popularity of the offset instrument grew to all new heights. To accompany the now wildly popular Jazzmaster, the shorter-scale Jaguar was introduced in mid-1962, with powerful pickups and a gorgeous, chromed out look, solidifying it as a staple in the Fender line up. The rest is history.
