In this video, Sam takes a quick look at the latest version of the popular Taylor 214CE, now with layered Hawaiian Koa back and sides, check one out here: https://www.pmtonline.co.uk/taylor-214ce-200-series-layered-koa-sitka-spruce-top-grand-auditorium-cutaway-es2
Part of their mid-range 200 series, the Taylor 214CE is a Grand Auditorium electro-acoustic guitar with a Venetian cutaway. Due to recent changes in regulations and restrictions on the use of Rosewood (that was found on previous models), this latest incarnation features layered Koa back and sides, a wood that is much more sustainable. Due to the laminate/layered construction (a veneer of Koa sandwiching a core of Poplar), this change has minimal effect on the guitars tone, it still sounds fantastic, rich and resonant, and the beautiful Koa grain and colouring makes the appearance of the guitar even more striking.
Along with the Koa body is a solid Sitka Spruce top, with newly redesigned and upgraded internal bracing to allow it to sing more freely, increasing the guitar's dynamic range. This top is finished with a high gloss lacquer, whilst the back and sides have a satin finish.
Other specs include a satin Sapele neck with 20 fret ebony fingerboard, an ebony bridge with Micarta saddle, a Tusq nut and high quality chrome tuners. Lively, organic sounding electro tones come courtesy of Taylor's widely acclaimed Expression 2 behind-the-saddle sensor and pre-amp system, and to offer some protection, the 214CE is supplied with a high quality hard foam gig bag.
