René and Gregor explore the Retrobass Tube Preamp by FMC from Germany. This pedal is on the rather affordable side of the range but sounds amazing! Find out more about the Retrobass: http://fmc-audio.jimdo.com/fmc-retrobass-tube-preamp/ Gregor reviewed the Retrobass for German bass magazine bassquarterly. It's inspired by well known Fender and Alembic preamps and a great tool if you want to send a vintage sounding instrument in a dry sounding modern solid state or class D amp. It's adds some sweet color to the tone. The passive EQ works great and isn't as weird many other passive EQ's in some tube preamps. Easy to find sweet spots, because they're all over the place. The voice switch changes mainly the mid range and provides characters of a Fender Bassman (up), an Orange AD200 (center) and an Ampeg SVT (down). The whole tone shaping section is intuitive and dummy-proof. The easiest to get a good sound out in no time, period. This preamp isn't really made for saturation or tube compression. But it gives you a "tight" tube sound with a bit of rock'n'roll edge.
To be fair - we sent the signal in some of the clips through mic preamps and compressors, because that's what you do in a studio.
Thanks for watching! :)
