The Flying V and Explorer models were first introduced in 1958, as part of the Modernist series. These radical new designs were meant to push the visual boundaries of the electric guitar, experimenting with brand new shapes and concepts. These unique models are known for their bold contours and look, beautifully described by Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top as “Rock n’ roll meets The Jetsons.” We couldn’t think of a better description, and the success of these models over the years solidifies their place in rock n’ roll history.
