MESA/Boogie Throttle Box EQ -- 6 String Modern Heavy Gain
This example demonstrates the wide range of massive Gain available from the Throttle Box EQ as well as the additional POWERFUL control over both saturation AND punch with the addition of the Five Band Graphic EQ.
The clip starts with the LO Gain mode and the Five Band Graphic EQ OFF to demonstrate the warmer and more mid-forward Gain sound. Switching to HI with the Five Band Graphic EQ ON yields the full potential of the Throttle Box EQ for not only massive gain, but also massive shaping power for increased gain but also exceptional control of low end punch, especially great in detuned or extended range guitars. Find the sweet spot on the 80hz and 220hz sliders for the maximum tightness in attack versus punch and width.
The sample closes with a nice sweep of the powerful MID CUT control which provides an extremely broad range of additional mid-shaping options from massive scoop to more forward, yet organic full mid clarity.
Signal Chain: Played through the Bridge Position S22B Humbucker of a Carvin CT624C guitar tuned to Drop C into the Channel 1 Clean of a Lone Star 100W Head and 2x12 Rectifier Cabinet. Recorded with a Heil PR30 and a Sennheiser 906.
