On this week’s Academy Of Tone, Thomas is joined by special guest HooVi – founder of the ingenious Deeflexx sound deflection system for guitar amps or speaker cabinets – to talk about all things guitar, gear and, of course, achieving the best possible live tones as a player without damaging your own hearing… or your audience’s!
Thomas and HooVi have been friends for decades, and HooVi is driving all the way to Saarbrücken from Austria to take part in the show. A long-time musician and an early bird user of AMP1 (he’s also an active user in the Facebook AMP1 user group!), HooVi will show us his current stereo rig – which is made up of two AMP1 Silver Editions – and he and Thomas will dive in to the story of HooVi’s long search and journey on achieving optimum guitar monitoring in a full band context.
The result of the journey is the mighty Deeflexx system… but it took a long time to get there! Decades ago, HooVi began by building his own speaker cabinets, experimenting endlessly with things like beam blockers to try and achieve the best onstage sounds. After much R&D and trial and error, Deeflexx was born.
On the show, HooVi will take us through the whole everything, sharing the experiences he has had on his long (and sometimes rather scientific) journey, and explaining how he learned about things such as how – and which – frequencies cut through in a band mix. With HooVi’s 30 years of experience, and Thomas’s usual input, there’s surely plenty for all of us to learn in this episode!
The guys will also answer your questions on live band sound topics, so please ask them in the chat and they’ll get to as many as they can.
