Having cracked the code on the famous tape echo sounds of the Maestro EP-3 Echoplex with their Belle Epoch and Belle Epoch Deluxe, Catalinbread has focused on the heart of these echo units--the preamp, which not only processed the echo but enhanced and boosted the guitar’s dry signal, even with the echo switched off! Enter the Epoch Boost, a faithful recreation of the rare and early EP-3 preamp circuit which offers a buffer, boost and subtle EQ.
The Preamp knob is a straight forward volume control until 12 o' clock where it adds boost and sparkle from its analog circuit. Turning up more reveals the preamp’s unique emphasis of different frequencies and slight compression. To embellish these vintage-correct settings, Catalinbread gives you 20dB of boost for extra versatility, whether you want to fatten up a sterile tone or push your amp into overdrive. Plus, a separate input buffer accessed on the inside allows you to make up any signal loss from long cables before even reaching the preamp circuit.
Loaded with NOS Sprague Orange Drop capacitors, a similar JFET to the original and 22VDC internally boosted headroom, the Epoch Boost is ready to add a vintage sheen to your tone. Like all Catalinbread effects, the Epoch Boost is hand-built in Portland OR with high quality components and can be found by clicking the links above.
