Today we’re paying our respects to the Monument Harmonic Tap Tremolo, from Walrus Audio. The Monument gives tribute to two classic tremolo types with a host of features built around them. The heart of the Monument is the tiny toggle switch due west of center, which changes between two trem types. Standard mode is based on buttery sine-wave trem found on vintage Blackface Fender amps, and is also found on just about every classic rock album ever recorded. Harmonic mode dishes up juicy harmonic trem normally found on ancient Brownface Fender amps. This trem type sounds almost like a primitive phaser and is much less common in the trem world. A global shape control lets you assign the tremolo a waveshape that locks across both modes, ranging from the common sine and square shapes to more adventurous types such as “lumps” and “monument” mode, which is a random wave generator. A tap tempo control lets you tailor the rate of the Monument to your liking, with a handful of tap subdivisions to get you stomping in correct time. When you hold down on the bypass switch, the Monument enters momentary mode, where you can keep the pedal active as long as your foot is on it, for precision blasts of trem right where you want them. The volume control helps you combat any perceived volume loss you might experience, giving you a healthy signal boost. With the depth control completely dialed back, you can even use the Monument as a killer clean boost. The rear panel of the Monument features a remote tap switch so you don’t have to stomp directly on the pedal, and an expression input to control the rate of the tremolo hands-free. And just like all Walrus Audio pedals, the Monument is erected one at a time in the USA.
