In this week's episode, we have a special treat for all blues enthusiasts. Joining our host Thomas is none other than the young and prodigiously talented blues guitar player from Germany, Sean Athens!
You may remember Sean from his previous appearance on episode 104, where he wowed us with his incredible skills.
Now, Sean is working on his very first Solo record, and he has reached out to Thomas for a special collaboration. Together, they will embark on a live stream session with no strings attached, as Thomas records a guest solo for Sean's album.
During this exclusive livestream, you'll have the unique opportunity to witness the entire recording process firsthand. Thomas will delve into the technical and artistic aspects of recording his solo, explaining each step and concept along the way. It's a chance to see the master at work and gain valuable insights into his approach.
Of course, Sean and Thomas will also dive into the world of blues. They'll discuss session work, the background of making albums, and Sean's AMP1 pedalboard rig.
As part of the new generation of blues players, Sean is helping re-popularize the genre on both regional and national levels. Alongside renowned artists like John Mayer and Joe Bonamassa, passionate players like Sean, Marcus King, and Christone "Kingfish" Ingram are driving the blues back to its rightful place.
Currently, Sean plays guitar for Chris Kramer & Beatbox 'n' Blues, a unique power trio that showcases the raw energy of blues. With vocalist and blues harp player Chris Kramer and beatboxer Kevin O Neal, the band has recorded and toured extensively. Sean's trusty AMP1 Silver Edition, which he discovered early on, forms the foundation of his rig wherever he goes. Additionally, Sean also dazzles audiences with his solo performances and lends his skills as a session musician for other artists.
