This ES-335 is the sort of guitar that compels you to let out a wild war whoop when you hit a big E chord. It has a woody, percussive attack that allows you to dig in and really get some attitude on the front end of the note. After that, you can hear plenty of warm, deep low-end to go with snarling, raspy upper-midrange and open, clear trebles. The bridge pickup is muscular but well-defined, and it totally rules for searing leads and crunchy rhythms. The neck pickup has deep, smooth lows beneath a vocal midrange and singing trebles.
Because this serial's top end is so open, you can heap the gain on with a backhoe and the sound will remain clear. It also passes my patented "low-fifth" test. Basically, if you can play a power chord with the fifth in the bass through a distorted amp in the neck position and hear each note clearly, you've got a guitar with exceptional clarity.
This mix of attitude and clarity makes for one heck of an inspiring playing experience, and it allows this serial to excel in everything from hard rock to blues to jazz to country! Anyone looking for a versatile, clear-sounding 335 with a little rock and roll attitude will love this guitar!
