I remember the first time I discovered Ola Englund… and the amazing guitar/distortion tone he was getting. It’s as if my eyes were opened to an entirely different high gain distortion tone that perked my ears up and said “I’ve got to have that!” It was this video that put me over the top: https://youtu.be/lsMMsM3wirE?t=1m53s
I had to have that tone. So chewy, so fat and full but with a clarity that was unmistakable. Totally different than what I could get with our Triple Wreck pedal, but still high gain with note separation and articulation. It was jaw droppingly great.
So while it is completely geared more towards the newer metal player, with the active 3 band EQ and the “tight/open” switch you can still get some older school metal tones as well, yet unlike most of the higher gain pedals on the market, the bottom stays tight (because who doesn’t like a tight bottom?) even on 7 and 8 string guitars.
