Scott Sill performs a shootout between 3 popular large diaphragm condenser microphones from Sennheiser, Audio-Technica, and AKG. He made sure to measure the distance, the height and angle of each one of the microphones so that they were placed in the same place relative to the guitar each time.
The mics tested were there: Sennheiser MK 4, Audio-Technica AT4033, and AKG C4000B. Scott used two different guitars, a 6 string and a 12 string. Both have different body shapes and wood types to provide many different tonal varieties. The 6 string guitar is a Martin Custom OM-28 Marquis Madagascar. It has Madagascar rosewood back and sides along with a Bear Clawed European spruce top. The 12 string is a custom Gibson made with Koa back and sides and a sitka spruce top.
