Hi guys in this upload we take a look at How to get the BEST TONE from your tube Amplifier at lower Volumes.
The first option is pretty much a no brainer and that's get yourself an attenuator, i'm not going to say what's best but rather say what's my personal favourite and that is the THD hotplate. This unit is my desert island pedal and one bit of kit I find as important to my tone as the amp itself, I like to think of it like this. If you own a Porsche and only drive at 30 you may as well get a Prius - Which roughly translates to if you own a tube amp you got to get the tubes WORKING, only having the amp barely on is not gonna get you there Tonal wise. So a Attenuator will push the amp hard and keep the volumes at non nagging wife volumes.
The second option and probably a lot cheaper and im guessing accessible to anybody reading this is to open the amp volume RIGHT UP and put a drive pedal last in your chain , you will want to dial the volume right down on the pedal and add drive to taste, if your pedal has a tone knob you may want to push that more than usual also. I feel this way adds less colour to the global tone and feels almost more organic? Very difficult to explain but it definitely retains note clarity different to the hotplate.
So there you go, and EASY WAY to get more out of your tube amp that actually works 😊
I really hope this helps , and if it does make sure to let me know below.
