We're comparing Nordstrand Pickups! Big Singles, Big Splits and Fat Stacks in a Torillo bass, played by René Flächsenhaar. Find out more about these pickups: http://nordstrandpickups.com/
The differences between the pickups in this video might seem a bit subtle. And yes, they are. We used extra-minimum amounts of audio editing to keep the bass tone as natural as possible (recorded straight into an Apogee Soundcard), but the differences are still much smaller than you hear and feel them "in real life".
Short description:
Big Singles - the only real singlecoils here. So they hum a bit, but award you with an extra fresh and dynamic tone. A bit fatter than what a Jazz Bass pickup mostly sounds like. A fun thing if you can stand the hum.
Big Spilts - technically something like 2 p-bass pickups with both coils in a straight line. Feels a bit different, but at the end - sounds very close to the Big Singles, but without the hum (98%)
Fat Stacks - these are different. The 2 coils are stacked, that's why the name. The sounds is a lot more "analytic" and balanced. They don't sound as "nice" (imo) as the other ones, but will make those happy, who aren't into "vintage" voiced sounds.
Thanks for watching! :)
