Our love for all things Z is very, very well documented here on the Peach Guitars channel. Featuring in most of our videos as the backline amp of choice for guitar & pedal demos, the Maz amplifier is an absolute staple of tone, covering many tonal bases with ease, and providing the all-important ‘feel’ factor that expresses the finest, most minute details of any guitar’s personality. Swap that ‘M’ for a ‘C’, and we end up with a steroid-infused, powerhouse of a high-gain amp - the result of a collaboration between Mike at Dr. Z and high-gain heavyweight, Alan Phillips of Carol Ann Amplifiers.
The new CAZ-45 is the result of tone tweaking from both camps, to create a design from scratch, that provides the user with a new, high gain experience, something Z themselves haven’t tackled before - while still retaining all the attributes of a standard Z amplifier that we’ve come to know and love; the touch sensitivity, the clean-up on the guitar volume control, the way it takes pedals, etc. Alan’s significant contributions of a transparent, tube-buffered effects loop, as well as some clever front panel tonal tweaks affecting the response of both preamp and power amp sections, this collaboration is quite possibly the last word in responsive high gain tone.
Anyway, enough waffle… Check out the sound clips in this video, and we’re sure you’ll agree, this amp delivers on its promise. If you’re a vintage amp nut wanting to take the plunge in to high gain, this is the rig for you! But be quick, this is the last available amp from our first Z shipment of the year, and it’s bound to disappear fast!
