Just like the other electric guitar and bass models in the range, the Acoustic Fly is a surprisingly punchy 3w amplifier, considering it’s tiny size, and it’s available either singularly or in a stereo pack, like the one we’re looking at here. This additional speaker bumps the output power up to 6 watts, and gives you a true stereo image, so when you connect an mp3 player to the line input, everything’s panned where’s it should be as opposed to converting the signal to mono like a lot of other practice amp line ins do.
The tonal circuit on the main input has been specific designed for an acoustic guitar. There’s controls for volume, treble and bass, a shape switch which scoops some of the mid-range frequencies, which sounds great for harder strumming, and then there’s an onboard echo to add bit of colour to your tone, and this can be tweaked to sound like a kind of short room reverb, or longer tape style echos.
As well as being a great little acoustic amp, if you buy the stereo pack, the Fly 3 also makes for a great little pair of active speakers that you can use with something like a computer, an mp3 player, or you could even get away with using it as a stereo keyboard amplifier, as outside of the EQ circuit, the onboard amplifiers and speakers offer a very natural, kind of flatter response sound. Whilst you’re never really gonna gig a Blackstar Fly, they are easily loud enough for home use, plus there’s also headphone socket for those late night practice sessions, and as it’s so compact and lightweight and can also run the on 6 AA batteries, it’s a great little acoustic amp for jamming with your friends when you’re out and about, or it’s the perfect little guitar amp for buskers.
