Matt Smith plays nearly anything with frets—and a few without. In this episode, he explains how to explore the world of stringed instruments without getting lost along the way.
For more than three decades, the Austin-based multi-instrumentalist has made his living as a guitarist, teacher, producer, and author. As a senior instructor for the National Guitar Workshop, Matt led classes across the U.S., as well as in Germany and the U.K. He has toured extensively in dozens of countries, and produced and engineered more than 100 albums, film soundtracks, and commercials. Countless sessions and some 20 years of being a clinician for top guitar and gear manufacturers have given him a unique perspective on the life of a professional musician. In this week’s Chasing Frets podcast, Matt shares what he has learned along the way, while demystifying open tunings, home recording, and other topics that modern guitarists must master.
