This little treasure turned up on my doorstep today. It is, how we say down under, a little pearler. A solitary single-coil pickup that was designed by Tim Shaw after an original Esquire they found somewhere, with a very handy three position switch that takes you from wide open tone (rear) to preset treble rolloff (forward). It's quiet, light, beautiful to look at and even better to play. The neck is a full girth 'U' shape that's only slightly beefier than a Fender 'soft V', in my opinion. It, like the body, has a nitro finish, 7.25" radius and vintage, tall frets. The body is roasted pine which has a real 'ting' to it and the whole thing weighs only 3kg or 6.6lbs - perfect! That pickup has a lot of scope for a humble single coil and I won't be changing it anytime soon. To celebrate the arrival of this mighty axe (which I'll be using and abusing extensively for years, I hope) I've dragged out the old Total Guitar Floyd backing track once again, in the hope that I can convey to you some of the tones this guitar is capable of in a style that I'll be using it in a lot. Rock on.
