This morning I woke to some good news (at last): Fractal Audio have released their major Firmware 13 Public Beta for the Axe-FX III. Among many things that have been polished and/or added in this release, one of the most significant additions is a rewrite and top-up of the Drive block. New drive models include the mighty Box O' Crunch which is still my favourite distortion in the real world (thank you, Michael Ibrahim!). So I just had to check it out and see if the virtual model was close to my real Crunch Box V2 which, by the way, I have only guessed might have been used as a reference for FW 13b. The model is close, but I thought it could be closer. So this vid tells the story of my tweaks to bring it on home.
After watching this video you may ask yourself how I stumbled upon a diode change in the Advanced section of the Drive block. Well, the truth is that I have almost zero technical knowledge about such things; rudimentary at best. But Michael Ibrahim did leave some clues a few years back. And I found those clues here: http://tagboardeffects.blogspot.com/2012/02/mi-audio-crunch-box-v2.html
