This is a one-off, point-to-point, hand-wired, boutique build by Lawrenceburg, KY builder Bill Farris of Farris Audio. It is made from a vintage Ampex A692 Suitcase Amp or an A423 stereo reel-to-reel console. Ampex used this amp in multiple products. Tubes are 6X5 rectifier, two 6V6 output tubes, and two 12ax7 preamp tubes. The speaker is an Eminence AlNiCo 10". All is fit inside a custom cabinet made to resemble old National, Dobro, Valco, and Gibson amps from the 1930s and 1940s.
There is an auxiliary speaker out. Controls are volume, bass, and treble. There is an On/Off switch and a Standby. There are two inputs, although only one is in use.
Very cool amp. Nice, snappy cleans. Lots of usable headroom for a 12W amp. Perfect for Tele twang! Lots of punch on tap. Will break up slightly when pushed with humbuckers. The best part is, since it's all hand-wired and PTP, it's a perfect platform for modifications if you so choose. All the good stuff is there - good iron, PP 6V6 output, AlNiCo speaker... Classic!
