Back around 1994 I took a touring sabbatical from the James Reyne band and joined a bunch of local reprobates named Bigger Than Jesus. Although irreverent, the name wasn’t a religious thing so much as a reference to the famous John Lennon quote. It was a tough, loud, fast, gritty and very hard partying band fronted by the great Steve Lucas; a band whose collective personalities could have been conceived in an underground comic series. Indeed, most of us misbehaved enough to warrant various degrees of infamy, a practice that would lead to the band’s eventual demise a few short years later. Fortunately, the surviving members (RIP, Craig Whitelock) have remained on friendly and speaking terms through the years. So for fun we’re donning the black and resurrecting the chaos for one night only, December 15, at the ESPY in St Kilda, where we did most of our damage in the 90’s. One of the tracks from the new One For The Road EP (tracked in the 90’s, mastered by Gil Mathews this year) is called “It’s Not My Time”. This is me having some fun and attempting to recreate my bits (I couldn’t work out my own solo, though!) The PRS is a 2011 Studio Ten Top which I'll be running on the night. I used the Axe-FX III to dial up the 5150 tones I originally recorded with (thank you, Austin Buddy!) Please come to the gig on Saturday, it’s going to be a blast.
