My daughter and I drove around, scouring the curbs of the surrounding neighborhoods of Louisville during the most recent heavy trash days for ride-on toys. We found THREE more ride-ons on the curb to add to her budding collection - a Power Wheels Barbie Mustang, a Power Wheels Jeep, and a Motion Trendz Disney Cars Lightning McQueen 3-wheeled Scooter complete with working 6V battery!
Does one kid need so many ride-on toys? According to her mother, no, but we enjoy working on these things together. It gives us a chance to spend some time talking about how to fix things and not just throw them away. She watches me go through the electronics and we talk about how the toys work, then we give them a wash down together and she finally gets to take them for a test drive and pretend to be a TV presenter when we make a Youtube video. I gotta believe there's a useful skill or two being learned in there somewhere, or at least some memories formed of her crazy old man digging cool shit out of other people's trash piles.
