The earliest iteration of Gamechanger Audio’s innovative ingenuity appeared in 2015, when founder Ilja Krumins began development on a piano-style sustain effect pedal for guitars and basses. His then-recent return to Riga, Latvia, led to the chance meeting with eventual cofounders Kristaps Kalva and Martins Melkis through the local rockabilly scene. As they say, the rest is history, and their distinctive design ethos has resulted in multiple instruments and tools that reimagine the creative limits of conventional sound production. With the Motor Synth MkII, they’ve distilled their indominable creative spirit into a 3-voice, electromechanical hybrid digital-analog synth that’s powered by speed and lasers. Ilja stopped by Sweetwater to join Jake Jenkins in a dazzling showcase of this cyberpunk synth’s suite of sonic possibilities. Check it out!
