Because Wildwood Guitars is a magical paradise for guitar nerds, we get to do some pretty cool things. For instance, we recently did a shootout between four Custom Shop 12-Fret 000 Martin guitars with very different tonewoods. Each has a Spruce top (Adirondack, Engelmann AND European Spruce!) with a different type of back and sides: Guatemalan rosewood, East Indian rosewood, maple, and koa. We had our stalwart acoustic flatpicker Ross Martin play the same thing on each guitar to really highlight the different characteristics of each instrument. We're curious: what do YOU hear? How would you describe the difference between East Indian and Guatemalan rosewood, or the difference between koa and maple? What about Engelmann spruce vs. Adirondack spruce? Let us know in the comments, because we want to get to know you (and your ears!) better!
