Last year I took a punt and bought a PRS SE Hollowbody II Piezo. I own a couple of other PRS guitars but nothing with piezo so I thought it might be fun and useful. It's a good guitar for the money, I think, but not without a couple of compromises that I have to be critical of: 1. If you're running one cable only (you can run separate cables for the magnetic and piezo pickups) swapping between the magnetic and piezo pickups in a hurry is ...well, you'd better not be in a hurry. You'll see me dialling reverse positions on both top pots in this video; that's the only way to do it as far as I can tell. 2. The battery terminal is dependent on two very thin wires that hang on to it - something that you'd find in an early Shin-ei fuzz pedal, for example. Not very robust. Apart from that, the guitar plays well and is beautifully appointed. I would love to try the non-SE model one day but doubt I could ever afford it.
The guitar shines its best through boutique style and 'blackface' Fender combos such as those I've dialled up here on the Axe-FX III MKII. Two-Rock, Dumble and Fender models are the ticket. The piezo needs no preamp or cab IR but I did add a little bit of bottom end with the Parametric EQ, some compression to keep levels in check, and a modest amount of stereo enhancement.
