On this week’s Academy Of Tone, Thomas and Rich are back to officially welcome in the summer season with some top tips on how you can survive the outdoor and festival gigs that traditionally happen at this time of year!
Thomas, of course, has seen it all over his long career. Having played summer shows for up to 120,000 people in any kinds of weathers and pressure situations, he’s done enough festivals to have basically written the book on what to do – and what not to do! – as a guitar player. So tonight, that knowledge will be shared with us all!
There’s plenty to talk about, because festival and outdoor shows are totally unlike their cozy (and usually indoor) winter counterparts. How many watts of power do you need to play an outdoor show? What special preparations should you make to your rig? What do you need to bring that you wouldn’t for a standard show? How do you deal with massive festival stages, and 20-minuted changeover times between bands? And then there’s rain – how to survive a wet show at all?!
In this show, the guys will go through all these things and more, and explain how you can prepare to go about playing outdoor festival shows this summer in the easiest and best ways possible. Thomas also has a bunch of funny stories about festival gigs too, so don’t miss those!
As usual, the guys will answer as many of your questions as possible too, so join us in the chat with those, and there will be updates on AMPX and all the other ongoing BluGuitar-related business too. See you there!
