If you look up "Strat" in the dictionary, you'll find a picture of this monstrous '56 from Masterbuilder Todd Krause. It has just the sort of tonality I like: clear, deep vintage-style low-end, focused midrange, and a sunny, lush high end. You can hear all of these characteristics to some degree in each pickup position, so this guitar has quite a consistent personality! There are a few subtle differences, though, especially in the midrange.
Like some of my favorite vintage Stratocasters, this Masterbuilt's pickup selector switch acts like a midrange focus shifter. In the bridge position, you get lots of upper midrange quack and snarl. Flip to the middle position, and you get more of the middle of the mids (the mid-mids? We guitar players need to come up with a better way to talk about the middle of the midrange!) for a punchier sound. By contrast, the neck pickup has more low-mids, which gives it a throaty, sonorous quality. The two in-between positions are just right, too: quacky, chime-y, and jangly!
But let's put talk of frequency response aside for a moment, because what really makes this guitar special is its vintage heart and soul. It has the sort of sound that makes you feel like you just stepped into one of your favorite records (especially if one of your favorite records is Band of Gypsys!).
We are proud to showcase such an inspiring instrument for our exceptional customers, and we know this killer Krause will be an excellent muse for any Stratocaster fanatic!
