Country Guitar Bends - Pedal Steel Type Bending - Guitar Lesson
In this guitar lesson we're gonna breakdown some cool bending licks on guitar. The intro is played in a country style because this type of bending is very reminiscent of the type of bends you hear often in country music. It sounds very close to the way a pedal steel guitar sounds.
But don't feel put off if you are not interested in country music (although some of the most amazing guitar players are the nashville cats ... absolutely amazing) ... because this technique can be heard (not as frequently ... but is always cool when you do hear it) in all styles of music.
And if you are not used to bending strings in this way, it will open up a whole new world of thinking ... and once you begin to incorporate it into your own style, you will be coming up with new and unique solo ideas in no time.
Mr Carl Culpepper does a great job working through several different bending techniques all based off of this pedal steel type bending concept. But after you learn this concept we would suggest you sit with it for a week or two and really try and start mixing it into your own playing. Meaning, don't just learn the lick/bend note for note and only use it exactly that way.
We hope you like this lesson. We have been receiving more and more requests to do guitar lessons on some general technique/theory/chords/scales ... and we hope this fills some of that request. We plan on doing a lot more lessons like this in the near future ... so stick around.
And if you are interested in exploring this technique further just do a search for Danny Gatton, Vince Gill, Brad Paisley, Jerry Donahue, Brent Mason, Chet Atkins, Albert Lee, Keith Urban, Dann Huff, Ricky Skaggs, Jerry Reed, Jerry Douglas, Carl Perkins, Glen Campbell ... and the list goes on. That is just the "country" type guys. Also check out Allen HInds, Steve Morse, Eric Johnson, Guthrie Govan, and Zakk Wylde for this style of bending used in a more rock jazz fusion way.
