AER are generally regarded as THE acoustic amp specialists. The Alpha Plus is very similar to their widely acclaimed Alpha model, but with a larger cabinet design for a richer tone and more power, making it more suitable to take out gigging.
Now these amps feature a pretty minimal control layout with a discreet cabinet design, but don’t let their simplicity fool you, AER make premium quality amps, engineered with the sole aim of reproducing the sound of your acoustic guitar to the highest quality.
The Alpha Plus is a 50 watt combo, pretty powerful considering it’s reasonably compact and lightweight design, and it houses an 8 inch, twin cone speaker for accurate reproduction across the entire frequency spectrum. It features dual inputs, one dedicated for a guitar, and the other an XLR combi input, which also features phantom power so you can connect a high quality condenser microphone. Inputs are switchable to match the impedance of your guitar or microphone, there’s separate gain controls for each and then an overall 3 band EQ, digital reverb and master volume. As I said, a very simple layout, but delivering a really high quality, rich acoustic tone.
The rear panel features 1/4 inch jack connections including an effects loop, line out, headphones and an optional foot switch to control the reverb, and there’s also a balanced XLR DI output to connect the amp into a PA system.
Designed for the gigging acoustic guitarist, the Alpha Plus comes supplied with a padded gig bag to carry it around in, there’s a super sturdy carry handle, and the tough cabinet design features a foam covered heavy duty speaker grill to protect the speaker against any knocks and a screw thread on the bottom of the amp allows you to mount it on a stand for greater acoustic projection.
