If you’ve not heard of them before, Cole Clark is an Australian brand that we’ve just taken on here at PMT, but they’ve been producing some really interesting, high quality acoustics since 2001. These really are unique guitars, both visually and tonally. They’re made from all solid sustainable tonewoods, most of which are native to Australia such as Bunya, Queensland Maple and Australian blackwood, and they also utilise some pretty specialised construction methods including a Spanish heel or, integral neck joint.
Whereas on most acoustics, the body is made first, then the neck is attached afterwards with either a bolt or dovetail joint, on these guitars, the neck is actually part of the body, glued to the top, along with the sides and the back, so you get one piece all the way to the sound hole, resulting in a really vibrant feeling guitar.
They also feature internally carved tops and backs and, instead of more conventional kerfling, they use a ridge system to join the sides to the top and back, and this all adds up to create really strong, lightweight acoustics which deliver pretty unique but very harmonically rich tones, with tons of resonance and power.
Cole Clark Angel 2 AN2EC-HUM Features:
- Premium-quality, Grand Auditorium-style guitar with internally-carved top and back pieces
- Solid Australian Blackwood Top, Back, and Sides, with a lower bout cutaway for easy upper-fret access
- Sleek Queensland Maple neck, capped with a She Oak fingerboard, and a "Spanish Heel" for increased sustain and stability
- Stylish "Snowflake" fret marker inlays
- Unique 3-Way pickup system from Cole Clark, complimented by a Lollar Imperial Humbucker pickup
- Includes deluxe hardshell case with a tweed exterior
As you can see above, this guitar has been crafted with Solid Blackwood for the Top, Back, and Side pieces. This tonewood is native to Australia, and not only does it look great but it is tonally close in character to its close cousin - the ever-popular Koa. What this means is that the guitar, when played, will produce a punchy bottom end, warm woody tone, and similar mid to high-end characteristics of a Mahogany.
Despite being a relatively young brand, Cole Clark have developed and patented the most natural-sounding acoustic pickup system on the market. The unique design of this system eliminates the famous piezo "quack", thanks to the different elements which are each designed to handle certain frequencies.
This system is comprised of 6 (yes, six) loaded under-saddle piezos for the bottom end, a face-sensor for the mid-to-high frequencies, and a condenser mic shelved for extreme highs. In addition to this, this particular guitar has been fitted with a PAF-like Lollar Imperial humbucker at the bridge position, with its own Volume and Tone controls, adding an extra dimension to your sound.
