A 1959 Flying V and TV Model mash-up! Gibson’s famous “TV Model” Les Pauls of the 1950s featured limed mahogany finishes and were popular around the same time as the development of the radical new Flying V. However, the Flying Vs were made of Korina wood, so Gibson never played with the finish options...that is until now. Presenting the limited edition Flying V Mahogany TV series, featuring ‘59-spec construction and appointments and bodies made from solid Mahogany, which is sonically very similar to Korina.
If you pick up this Flying V, you automatically feel like you are wearing the world’s coolest leather jacket. Oh, and it sounds great, too. The neck pickup has monolithic woody low-mids for days! It’s fat and heavy-sounding without getting muddy, making it perfect for that Sabbath cover band you’ve been trying to start (don’t kid yourself—if you’re looking at Flying V’s on the internet, you kind of want to start a Sabbath cover band on some level). I was also able to get some excellent Albert King-like blues sounds by rolling the tone back a little. The bridge pickup screams Michael Schenker, and it also screams in general; in fact, it’s nearly impossible to play a power chord in the treble position without making a nasty guitar face. If you enjoy any sort of heavy or aggressive music, or if you just want to be the coolest dude on the block, check out this V!
