On this week’s Academy Of Tone, Thomas and Rich take a deep dive into the magical world of mini pedals!
A fairly recent addition to the guitar gear world, mini FX pedals have taken the industry by storm – and yet they remain controversial for some players. Space-saving, practical, and mostly very affordable too, mini pedals can be a great way to add more tonal versatility to a pedalboard that only has a tiny space free in one corner. But on the other hand, there are guitarists who say these diminutive stompboxes are poorer quality than their full-sized counterparts.
Well, Thomas and Rich are going to put all of that to the test during the show. The guys have a bunch of mini pedals at their disposal, and they’ll be putting them all through their paces, as well as testing some out directly against their ‘big box’ brothers. Among the pedals under the tonal microscope are the Ibanez Tube Screamer, Nobels ODR-1, ProCo Rat, and numerous others. Today, we’ll finally be able to tell you if the mini pedals are indeed as good as their full-size counterparts!
The guys are also planning to make Thomas the ultimate travel gigging pedalboard – and yes, this is where the mini pedals will come in handy too. Thomas plans to get an entire rig inside his touring bag… and that includes his guitar! So stick around and watch and see if this portable rig of dreams is possible. We’re looking forward to seeing you for another episode of mini pedals and maximum tones!
