Importance of wood types in your guitar; how is resonance affected by wood choice? Find out in this short closeup review. Guitar resonance and what you really need to know.
Of recent times such things as 'roasted maple' and other woods have come to the forefront when guitarists are considering buying a new or second user used guitar. Especially if they are even basically aware of the impact on sustain. But how much of an effect does this sort of super dried wood really have on that final sustain of the guitar, and what about other woods such as roasted ash or alder?
I example a guitar I made a short while ago and include test results to show that what I applied to my guitar build actually did have a profound effect on the sustainability of the instrument in ways that you might not have considered. I also compared the results of an Ibanez RG550LTD guitar and the comparisons were strikingly different. I explain my opinions about the woods I used and some design aspects that I applied to my own instrument. And with a resulting sustain of the guitar to around 50 seconds the results are astounding.
You might not think that a simple understanding of materials for guitar could make so much difference to the playability of a guitar but you would be wrong. Let me tell you about my experiences with 'roasted' materials and show these results - they are hard to believe but perfectly true. These are my own opinions of course and some of it may be factually correct or incorrect, but there is no doubt that this video will really make you think about your guitar from the results I achieved.
Don't be afraid of putting your opinions down below either - this is not a subject that will go 'out of fashion' any time soon and your contribution will be on here for a very long time. Surely it will help others.
