In episode 142 of Academy of Tone, we'll be taking a deep dive into the world of the JCM 800 and comparing it to the AMP1 Mercury and Iridium Edition. Thomas will be using Euge VALOVIRTA’s vibrant and mean-sounding JCM 800 as well as his own 1968 "black flag" 100watts Plexi with a 800 mod to compare against the BluGuitar AMP1 Mercury and Iridium Edition.

Thomas will show us the different tones and approaches that can be achieved with these classic amplifiers, and will also be comparing them with some of the most popular pedals such as the Boss SD1, OD1, Ibanez Tube Screamer, and other classic boosters and overdrives. He will also be comparing the new Soldano SLO pedal and Friedman's BE-OD “amps in a pedal” with the real deal amplifiers in his switching setup.

In the second half of the episode, Thomas will interview Marzi Montazeri from Heavy as Texas and Exhorder. Marzi is a very interesting artist from Houston, Texas with an exciting history. He immigrated with his parents from Iran in the 80's and was fully immersed in American rock culture, seeing Van Halen live many times and experiencing a lot of great music from all around the world, including local hot acts like ZZ Top and Eric Johnson. He will also be sharing with us how the AMP1 Iridium edition became his new favorite amp and give us a great demo of his AMP1 pedalboard.
