It’s hard to explain the feeling that comes over you when you walk through the doors of the Fender Custom Shop. The smells of sawdust and nitrocellulose lacquer mingle in the air, and you’d swear it was the sweetest combination of scents in human history. The whole operation–the whirring CNC machines, the Custom Shop workers hand-sanding necks, the spinning pickup winders, the buzzing saws–has a way of overwhelming you with childlike wonder. It makes you feel somewhere between Christmas morning and the first day of school.
Once you become acclimated to the buzzing beehive of activity around you, you begin to notice what a well-oiled machine the Custom Shop is. Everyone moves with purpose, and they attack their assigned task–whether it be dressing frets, shaping bodies, assembling guitars, or performing final quality control checks–with laser-like focus.
