Community Theme Song ("At Least It Was Here" by The 88) from the NBC/Yahoo TV Show Community, created by Dan Harmon. I'm a big fan of the show and lately a community of internet guitar players have been watching my videos, so I'm very thankful for that.
Community came on the air when I was a junior in high school. I was hooked instantly, and the season 1 paintball episode was life changingly awesome. I watched every Thursday as it aired. During season 2 I was dual enrolling at Lansing Community College, which gave me a new layer of understanding to the show.
Then I moved to Nashville for college at Belmont University. I didn't have time to watch TV anymore, but I would make an appointment for Thursday nights to watch every new episode of season 3 of Community.
Then Dan Harmon was fired, and he started putting out a podcast called "Harmontown". This got me hooked on podcasts and I listened religiously. When the podcast went on tour, by random luck I got to play guitar before and during their Nashville show (podcast episode 27).
I continued to follow the show Community through its hero journey. Season 4 with the replacement showrunners, Dan's triumphant return and Troy's emotional departure during season 5, and the ultimate cancellation of the TV show followed by Yahoo bringing it back from the dead to continue the hope of fulfilling the prophecy of #SixSeasonsAndAMovie.
During the show's run, my music career got rolling. When I first watched an episode of Community in 2009, I had never played a paying gig. When I watched the finale of Season 6 in 2015 I was in a hotel bed in Oregon after flying out for a show. I've grown with the show, and I owe it, Dan Harmon, and the entire cast and crew for continuous inspiration and comfort over the course of the most stressful and exciting years of my life.
So it felt fitting while I was back home in Michigan for the holidays to film a country guitar tribute to the most meaningful television show I've ever experienced and probably ever will experience.
Thanks to Cole Tissue for being my cameraman and to Elderly Instruments for letting us shoot me playing in their showroom.
