PG’s John Bohlinger hug with Jared Mattson, the dude doing double duty on bass and guitar for the Mattson 2. Mattson builds thick loops by jumping between his bass and 6-string giving fans a concept of every musical experience he’s had along the way filtered through a psychedelic-jazz prism.
Jared Mattson’s most identifiable guitar is his Japanese Telestar doubleneck. The Telestar has been upgraded with a Seymour Duncan SM1-N Vintage Mini Humbucker in the guitar’s neck position and a Duncan SM-3B Seymourized Mini Humbucker in the bass neck position. The pickguard was designed and customized by Pat and Laura Jones.
When not on the double, Jared Mattson plays his Fender American Original ’50s Stratocaster reissue featuring wax-potted Pure Vintage ’59 single-coils, a “Soft V” neck profile with a 9.5" radius fretboard, a 6-point synchronized tremolo bridge, and a nitrocellulose lacquer finish.
