The 'Brown Sound' owes part of its charms to the Variac employed by the late, great Mr. Edward Van Halen. Luca Colombo has included his electronic version of the Variac control on his 'Eruption' OD/Distortion and it works very well. You begin with a high-gain 1959SLP in-a-can but you can take it into voltage-starvation with the Variac control. It will do things to the mids and top end that will be familiar to EVH fans. With the gain at minimum the Eruption is a great classic rock overdrive. Pump it up a little and the lava will flow. Rocking. Great stuff, Luca!
