Three simple controls, many subtle and enhancing tones, very low impedance so you can drive long effects chains and made by Mr Gugu Flux. If you're looking for a low-gain boost for your guitar or bass, you should consider a Black Pepper during your shopping trip. It adds spice and presence and looks pretty cool as well.
Today's tools:
Guitar: Partscaster with unknown body, Moses neck, Brierley pickups and various hardware appointments. I like it.
Amp: Vibrolux Reverb* with 2 x 10 speakers.
Extra effects: FAS 808 OD and Memory Man Delay models
Cables: Providence and Goodwood Audio
Power Supply: Voodoo Lab MONDO
Mic: Samson Airline77 (me)
Camera: Canon 60D (me) and iPhone 6+ (pedal)
Soundcard: AVID Mbox Pro 3
Computer: Apple iMac 27" i7 3.4 GHz 16 GB RAM
Software: Pro Tools 12.4, Waves CLA Guitars (slight comp over input track), Waves L3-16 Limiter (to keep levels in check at output), Apple Final Cut Pro X (video editing and Youtube compression).
*The amp was built around a Tremolux AA763 model in Fractal Audio FW 3.03 running an Axe-FX II XL+ direct to Pro Tools.
The Contraband was inserted into the front end of the Axe-FX in the same manner as you would use a 'real' amp. I tested this system including sound and dynamics against a real Achillies Vibrolux Reverb replica I have here and it sounded so close I was flabbergasted. I decided therefore to take the easier route of using the FAS system rather than miking the amp... something I may do more of in the future.
